The Heliocentric Theory
By Reece S.
What is it?-
By definition, the heliocentric theory was the idea that the sun was the center of the universe and the planets all revolved around it. This idea was extremely controversial at the time of its formation in the early 1500's, and the Roman Catholic Church was against those who believed it. So much so that they sentenced many of the scientists who worked to prove it to torture and life-long house arrest. It was first formed by a scientist by the name of Nicolaus Copernicus who did extensive research on the topic. He ended up publishing his works shortly before his death, some say, due to his cowardice and fear of the Church. This idea ended up shaping the world of astronomy as people know it today, and forming a strong base for future innovations.
